Getting Started
Do I need a referral to book a session?
No, you don’t need a referral to book a session. However, if you’d like to access Medicare rebates, you’ll need a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP or psychiatrist.
I’ve never done therapy before. How do I know if this is the right fit?
It’s completely normal to feel unsure. Many of our clients are new to therapy. Our team will work with you to understand your needs and goals, and help you feel at ease. If you’re uncertain, you’re welcome to book an intro call before committing.
What happens in the first session?
Your first session is about getting to know you. We’ll explore your reasons for seeking support, go through relevant history, and begin to understand your goals for therapy. It’s also a chance for you to ask any questions and see how we work.
Can I book a free intro call before committing?
Yes, we offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation. This gives you a chance to speak with one of our clinicians, ask questions, and get a feel for whether the approach is right for you.
How long is the wait time to get started?
Wait times vary depending on the clinician and type of therapy. We’ll always do our best to offer you the earliest available appointment, and if needed, place you on a cancellation list.
Fees & Rebates
What are your session fees?
Our fees vary depending on the type of service and the clinician you’re seeing. Standard therapy sessions typically range from $180 to $240. EMDR Intensives and group therapy programs are priced differently based on session length and format. A full fee schedule will be provided upon enquiry or during your initial consultation.
Can I use Medicare for sessions with Dr. Hargun?
Yes, if you have a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from your GP, you may be eligible to claim Medicare rebates for sessions with Dr. Hargun, provided the session is eligible under the Medicare Better Access initiative. Please note that not all sessions or modalities are covered.
Do you offer private health rebates?
Many of our clients are able to claim rebates through their private health insurance, depending on their level of cover and provider. We recommend checking directly with your health fund to confirm your entitlements. Please note that Medicare and private health rebates cannot be claimed for the same session.
Are EMDR Intensives covered by Medicare?
At present, EMDR Intensives are not covered under the Medicare Better Access scheme. These sessions are offered as extended, privately billed services. However, in some cases, portions of the intensive may be eligible for partial rebate if structured accordingly. We’re happy to discuss your options in more detail during an intake call.
Do you offer reduced rates or sliding scale options?
A limited number of reduced fee or sliding scale places may be available for clients experiencing financial hardship. Availability depends on clinician capacity. Please let us know if this is a consideration for you, we’ll do our best to support access where possible.
Therapy & Approach
What kind of therapy do you offer?
We specialise in trauma-informed therapy, combining approaches such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing), parts work (including inner child work), and somatic-focused techniques. Our sessions are tailored to each individual’s needs and focus on deep, sustainable healing rather than surface-level symptom management.
How is trauma-focused therapy different from general therapy?
Trauma-focused therapy recognises that past experiences, especially those that were overwhelming or unresolved, can shape how we think, feel, and relate to the world today. Instead of only addressing present-day symptoms, this approach works with the nervous system and memory processing to resolve trauma at its root.
What is “inner child” work, and do I need to talk about my childhood?
Inner child work helps explore the parts of us that may still carry unprocessed emotions, beliefs, or unmet needs from earlier in life. While we may explore childhood experiences if they feel relevant, you’ll never be pushed to talk about anything you’re not ready for. Many clients find this work to be both empowering and deeply healing.
Do you work with people who don’t have a formal diagnosis?
Absolutely. Many people seek therapy not because of a diagnosis, but because they want to feel more regulated, connected, or at peace. Whether or not you’ve received a formal diagnosis, you’re welcome here.
How do I know if EMDR is right for me?
EMDR is a powerful method for processing and integrating distressing experiences, whether those experiences are clearly traumatic or simply hard to shake. If you feel stuck in certain patterns, find yourself reacting strongly in specific situations, or notice past events still impacting you, EMDR may be a good fit. We’ll explore this together during your initial sessions to ensure the timing and approach is right for you.
EMDR Intensive
What is an EMDR Intensive?
An EMDR Intensive is a structured, short-term program designed to help you process trauma more efficiently than in standard weekly sessions. It involves longer EMDR therapy sessions delivered over consecutive days, with a focus on one specific goal.
Who is a good fit for an intensive program?
EMDR Intensives may be suitable for individuals who:
– Want to address specific trauma or challenges more efficiently
– Are experiencing blocks in traditional weekly therapy
– Have limited time or availability for ongoing sessions
– Prefer to make faster progress toward their goals
We’ll always assess your needs and readiness before recommending this format.
How is it different from weekly therapy?
Unlike traditional weekly therapy, which unfolds gradually over months, an EMDR Intensive condenses the healing work into a shorter period. This format may lead to faster results and is often preferred by those who want to reduce long-term therapy commitments.
Is it emotionally overwhelming to do so much in a short time?
Everyone responds differently. While intensives do involve deep emotional work, we tailor the pace to suit your capacity and needs. Preparation sessions and post-intensive support are also available to help you feel grounded and supported at every stage.
